Kettlebells, still going strong.

September 9th, 2008 · Ketllebells

Of course, I realize the term strength is relative and dependant on your goals.

Anyway.

Even with all the stuff going on and geting the facility ready to open, I still make time to get my training in.

It’s my OCD, or something, but he day isn’t complete if I havent trained.

The past two days were no different, and here’s what went down.

Monday:

Warm up:  I have this little routine I go through, 5 double kettlebell swings -> 5 double kettlebell cleans -> 5 jerks or Long Cycle Clean & Jerk.

I go trough this 1-3 times, with 2 16kg Kettlebells.  Nothing fancy.  The last two weeks I have added soem extra joint mobility, although I have never been able to get into Z-health I have been making a real effort to get it in.  I also add a couple sets of Hindu Push ups and slow squats with exagerated hip extension.  If you’re familiar with the rack postion for kettlebell jerks, I need to have my hips loose and able to open.

So, after this, I got down to the nitty gritty.

JERKS:

1st set: 2-24kg bells 5reps, focused on driving from the hips through the elbows and not using any arm/shoulder.

2nd set: same

3rd set: 2-16kg bells 40 reps, this was an unexpected PR.

SNATCH:

One set, ten minutes, 12 rpm, switch hands every minute, total 120 reps with a 16kg bell.  This isn’t even a challange.  I do it to only keep my technique right and get a little conditioning.

That was it.

Tuesday:

More of the same but I cut the reps down.

Same warm up, this won’t change.

JERKS;

2 sets of 5 with 2-24kg bells

1 set of 30 with 2-16kg (75% of my PR)

SNATCH:

1 set 6 minutes, same as Monday.

One Arm Jerk (OAJ) 1-24kg 12 rep right and left 2 times.  These I could have pushed further, and next time I will.

Goals for this month:  Jerk 2-16kg bells 55 times, 2-24kg bell 30 times.  And do at least 4 ten minute snatch sets with one hand switch.

I’ll have some new sizes in bells coming in the next couple of weeks so my training should get interesting.

Wednesday I’ll have new pics of the facility.

Stay tuned.

Facility tour 2 & 3

September 3rd, 2008 · Ketllebells, Videos

More paint and help.

After 2 coats of paint, it time to spart working on other stuff.  Wish I had more to say but the video tells all.

Today’s agenda, if all goes well, we’ll build the pull up system and construct the platforms. It seems like it’ll rain today though so transporting lumber may be out of the question.

As we get closer to the dates, spots available for the David Whitley Kettlebell Workshop and filling up fast. Get yours before it’s too late!

Looks like we’ll get some help…

August 30th, 2008 · Uncategorized

painting the facility.

My sister and brother-in-law are coming up from Carriere, MS along with my cousin from the New Orleans area.

Looks like our house has become the family hide out from Gustav. Oh well, we’ll have fun.

The facility is almost primed, and then we’ll start doing the first top coat. This will be interesting, I knew the scheme i wanted but the end colors are nothing I would have picked, but it’s gonna look good.

We’re going for an old weathered look, hard to explain. It sounds weird saying I’m going to put new paint on the walls to make it look old.

Those of you coming to the IronTamer Kettlebell Workshop on Oct 4th here in Frisco will get to see it first hand.

I think I figured out how we’re goiing to do the pull up apparatus, wait and see…

Here’s the beginings of the facility.  Nothing much pretty open.  Just taking a break from painting long enough to post this.

Maybe I’ll have more later.
